WSET Level 2 Winemaking Practice Questions

Winemaking is where the grapes become a style. The same fruit can end up crisp and fruity or rich and bready depending on the choices made in the cellar, and WSET Level 2 expects you to link those choices to what you taste in the glass.

Most winemaking questions are really about cause and effect. A technique goes in, a characteristic comes out. Malolactic conversion softens acidity. Lees ageing adds texture. Carbonic maceration gives bright, low-tannin fruit. If you learn the technique and its signature together, the questions stop being about memory and start being about reasoning.

The five questions below cover the techniques that come up most: sparkling wine methods, acid and texture adjustments, and the concentration methods behind some famous styles. Each explanation connects the process to the result you would find on the palate. That link is the whole point, because the exam will usually give you one and ask for the other.

That is why Prosecco tastes of pear and white flowers, not the toast you find in Champagne.
